Kids Self Defense

What techniques to teach a child for practical self defense has always been a hot topic.

What if they use the techniques improperly and break little Billy's arm?

I honestly believe there are only a couple of things a child can do to harm an adult bad enough to escape.

The eye gouge and bite are the meat and potatoes of my kids program. Depending on how big they are is what determines if a groin shot will work.

All the rest of what I teach I classify as maybe. Maybe someday they will be able to use it.

Jiu Jitsu is taught for use against bully's. When I was a kid there was a time or two when I wanted to escape from the bottom.

The biggest thing should be prevention. Prevention is the key to keeping our kids safe. Scary thing though... kids don't listen.

I saw a show once (can't remember the name) that worked with 100 kids on preventive measures of self defense and then with permission from the parents, tried to lure the kids to a spot where they could be abducted. 97 kids failed!

They were not toddlers either, most were 10-16 years old. And get this, the same techniques they used to lure the kids were the ones they taught the kids to avoid!

Kids don't listen. I have four so I am speaking from experience.

The preventive measures have to be drilled into them so that it's as natural as breathing. So along with repetitive drilling you should do stranger scenarios with kids and have them respond accordingly. This should be done at least 10,000 times because until then they will have to think about what to do. When it comes to self defense, you don't want them thinking, you want them acting.
